When we work with people we trust, we don’t just work better; we think differently. Here is why friendship is a critical engine for innovation.
1. Psychological Safety and the Wild Idea
The greatest barrier to divergent thinking is the fear of social suicide. In a professional vacuum, we self-censor to protect our reputations. However, research into Psychological Safety—a term popularized by Harvard’s Amy Edmondson—suggests that when a group feels secure, they are more likely to admit mistakes and propose “absurd” ideas.
